I told her I would write two separate posts about everything we laughed about today, but the more I thought about what I would write the less I wanted to post it. It was a precious time, our late morning rendezvous. And I am 100% positive that less than 5% of all of my friends on earth would appreciate the conversation the way it deserves to be appreciated.
Human relationships are so... tinny... these days. Shiny, but cheap. Maleable and convenient, but easily worthless. I scroll through facebook hoping to see something about my friends that live far away, but instead I'm flooded with information about people that I don't really care about. And the things I put up are of no significance to them, either. But we're all "friends."
I spend a lot of time on my own, going places and being in places by myself, and I feel acutely the value (or lack thereof) of all of my relationships. I love my friends, my priceless friends, the people that have stayed in constant touch for years--how can you put that into words? We've grown and gained and lost in each other's presence. We've changed, but we've decided to change together. I would do anything for them. They do so much for me.
I love Megan for meeting me at Starbucks today, but chances are if you are reading this, I love you too. Thank you for laughing with me. Thank you for listening. You are amazing and beautiful and worth it.
