novel of my life, friday night edition

Although she was not a naturally unfeeling creature, with an impressive list of connections and no want of friends, Madison had very little power to excite herself into frivolity on nights when an existential gray overcame her fresh, scholarly mind. And so we see that our heroine, despite rather impressive odds, spent this Friday evening alone on a couch in a very cold room (because she would rather have it cold than hot) watching the Dogberry and Verges scenes from Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. Such evenings as this are spent in creating reminders that the foolery of this earthly realm can be more virtuous than title; and as Madison had no title, and a great inclination to the ridiculous, her self-worth was elevated, and her bravery to face the increasingly large and confusing world around her replenished.

  1. Why weren't you my age instead of my little sister's? We would have run a muck.
