lately

I spend quality time with my favorite trainees in the whole of the British Commonwealth. Like last night, we attempted to watch an overly-loved VHS of My Fair Lady. We teased Jessie for being from London, which means she obviously lived the life of Eliza Dolittle. We tried to convince Lauren that she did not sound exactly like Eliza Dolittle, but you know, they both drop their H's...

I eat Oreos in bed and then spend lots of minutes seeing how far I can stick my fingers into my tubby tummy. I also eat lots of fruit. Fruit is healthy! I have been re-watching the fourth and fifth seasons of The Office, and dreaming about Jim Halpert and finding out I'm pregnant. Pam is my spirit animal. Kind of. My real spirit animal is a sloth. Or a brown bear. Pam is more like... Someone I wish I could eat lunch with. Regular lunch friend.

I'm working working working and my daily jobs vary from really cool to really painful. This week's really cool job: going through three boxes of donated books, and finding a textbook edition of Poetical Works from 1904, and flipping through the pages and finding an exam sheet and a page of notes for previously found exam written by H. Morgan Hall in 1911. This week's really painful job: prying 45 different keys on and off really tight key rings and tagging them all. The nails on my thumb, index and middle fingers on both hands have partially pried off the nail beds and they are very sore.

Today I applied for a summer curatorial internship at the St. Louis Art Museum. As usual, I'm trying not to put my eggs in one basket. But 80% of them are already in that basket. The other 20% are somewhere between: planning on dying before I leave England (from a broken heart), and knowing that my parents are moving into a house in April that has a pool... But really, I think I would love to live in St. Louis. It's a big city, with a nice cultural and historical background (including the launching point of Lewis and Clark's expedition), and I would be a lot closer to home than I have been in four years. Also I'd be closer to Atlanta, if you know what I mean... lol molly i hope you are reading this.

there'd be h to pay if my parents found out i moved to st. louis to meet and marry john truitt.

Just kidding, if I moved to St. Louis they would ask me every day if I had met John Truitt yet.

Tomorrow is Friday and everyone is going to the pub because a good local band is playing. I will probably go for a while, but I can't stay out too late. Saturday begins a whirlwind weekend getaway to a city I haven't stopped dreaming of for a year now.

When I got the job to facilitate a program in Glasgow, I had no idea that this city would change my basic understanding of Europe, open doors for every job I get for the next five years if not the rest of my life, and ultimately steal my heart. And I will be back for 30 blessed hours after 30 more hours in Grasmere, one bus ride to the train station, and two trains that will take me over the border to bonnie Scotland.

Next week this internship in Grasmere will be half-way over. The first half has had its fair share of trials, but with every passing day I am more and more awakened to the blessings God is showering on me now, and has been for the past four years, even when my eyes and heart were closed.

I love this island nation. So much. Ridiculously much. I am so happy to be here. And I may have six weeks left to revel in my Lake District, but I can't wait to see what will bring me back next time.
