The MGM Accent Coach had probably never lived outside of Hollywood.

I'm watching Brigadoon right now. The Scottish accents are 89% very bad, 11% creative invention. Jean, the one that gets married, is using something akin to Natalie Wood's "Puerto Rican" accent from West Side Story. Charlie is not even trying. He just sounds American. The shepherdess uses something between Laurie in Oklahoma, and the guy that sings Christmas in Killarney. It's killing me.

But they say words that are Scottish. And they mention Scottish places. So I'm willing to look past the weirdness of the accents; I'm still a little bit back in the highlands. And Gene Kelley dancing with the coos made my heart smile.
